30mg Vetoryl Tablets for Dogs - Pack of 30

£77.75 (tax incl.)

30mg Vetoryl Tablets are used to treat hyperadrenocorticism, commonly known as Cushing’s disease, in dogs. Each 30mg Vetoryl Tablet contains 30mg of the active ingredient trilostane, a synthetic compound that helps regulate hormone production in the adrenal glands. Vetoryl is designed specifically for use in dogs and must only be given under the direction of a veterinary surgeon.

Vetoryl 30mg contains trilostane, a drug that inhibits an enzyme involved in the production of cortisol in the adrenal glands. By blocking this enzyme, trilostane reduces the amount of cortisol being produced. This helps to control the symptoms of Cushing’s disease and improves the dog’s quality of life. The 30mg dosage is one of several strengths available. It may be used on its own or in combination with other strengths to achieve the correct dose as prescribed by your veterinarian. Proper dosing is crucial and must be based on the dog’s weight, clinical condition, and response to treatment.

Understanding Cushing’s Disease in Dogs

Cushing’s disease, or canine hyperadrenocorticism, occurs when a dog’s adrenal glands produce too much cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone essential for regulating metabolism, immune response, and stress, but in excess, it can lead to serious health problems. Most cases of Cushing’s disease are caused by a benign tumour on the pituitary gland, while some are due to an adrenal tumour.

Common signs of Cushing’s disease in dogs include:

  • Increased thirst and urination
  • Increased appetite
  • Hair loss or thinning coat
  • Muscle weakness
  • Lethargy
  • Pot-bellied appearance
  • Panting

Cushing's disease tends to affect middle-aged to older dogs. Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, urine analysis, and imaging studies. Once diagnosed, long-term medical treatment such as Vetoryl Flavoured Tablets is usually required.

Cushing’s disease is a progressive endocrine disorder seen most often in older dogs. It arises when the adrenal glands produce excessive cortisol, often due to a pituitary gland tumour (pituitary-dependent Cushing’s) or, less commonly, an adrenal tumour (adrenal-dependent Cushing’s).

The disease can be challenging to identify early, as many symptoms overlap with other conditions or can be mistaken for signs of ageing. Affected dogs may drink and urinate excessively, experience increased appetite, develop a pot-bellied abdomen, and suffer from hair loss or thinning skin. Behavioural changes such as increased panting, muscle wasting, and lethargy may also be observed.

If left untreated, Cushing’s disease can weaken the immune system, lead to diabetes, hypertension, or pancreatitis, and significantly reduce a dog’s quality of life. Diagnosis requires a combination of blood and urine tests, imaging, and clinical assessment by a veterinarian.

Vetoryl 30mg tablets are scored, meaning they can be split in half to allow for more flexible dosing. This is especially useful during initial treatment phases, where lower or intermediate doses may be trialled to monitor tolerance and effectiveness.

Only break tablets if advised to do so by your vet. Splitting should be done using a tablet cutter to ensure an even dose. Tablets should be administered whole or halved, never crushed or chewed, and always given with food to ensure proper absorption.
