10 Great Dog Breeds for Children

If you have a family with children, you may want to get a puppy at some point. The problem is that there are many breeds of dogs that are really not the best for children. Some just don’t have the temperament to be around kids, and others just may not have the personality that fits well with them. If you are thinking about getting a dog, here are ten great dog breeds for children.

1. Bulldog
First, we have the bulldog. They are built very sturdy, which is great for kids that like to play rough. While they don’t have a whole lot of energy, they are friendly and loyal. They also get along well with children and other pets.

2. Beagle
The beagle is actually a dog that was initially used a lot for hunting, but now they are often pets found in homes that have children. This is because they are active, and they also have a stocky and sturdy build. They get along with other pets, and are smart, happy and friendly. It’s a great combination for kids.

3. Bull Terrier
The bull terrier is often given a bad reputation for being aggressive, but they are actually great companions. They are very loving to people of all ages, even kids. They have a good frame, and they also have a high threshold for pain, which means that even the most active kids would have a hard time hurting them.

4. Collie
Lassie is a dog that most kids have grown to love, and the collie is a gentle breed and they are also very predictable. They rarely bite, and they are also very easy to train. They get along great, and they are also very a very protective breed.

5. Newfoundland
The Newfoundland is a breed that really loves children, and they are also very protective. They have a gentle nature, and they are very patient. Whether you are young or old, you are sure to love this breed. Just remember, they need a lot of space.

6. Vizsla
The Vizsla is actually a breed that many people have never heard of, but it is also a very energetic breed and they are playful with kids. They are lively, but also gentle. They are loyal, obedient and affectionate as well.

7. Irish Setter
The Irish Setter is a breed that is known for being energetic and playful. They play well with kids, but you should know that they require a great deal of exercise to remain healthy. Another benefit is that they are easy to train.

8. Poodle
Poodles are really a fun breed, and they are really cute as well! Just remember that they do require grooming, more than many other breeds. They don’t shed a lot, and that makes them ideal for kids that have allergies. They are good natured, friendly, intelligent and patient - making them a winning choice for kids.

9. Labrador Retriever
The Labrador retriever, often called the 'Lab', is a playful breed and they are extremely protective. They are also really smart and easy to train. Kids can have fun with them, and they are a larger breed so they can hold their own with rambunctious kids.

10. Golden Retriever
Lastly, but certainly not least, we have the golden retriever. This is a breed that is a bit smaller than a lab, but they still have confidence, intelligence and loyalty - which are all traits that families with children should look for. They are even really playful, and they don’t ever get shy or aggressive like many of the other breeds that you see out there.
