RIP Fleas Spray - Household Flea Treatment
RIP Fleas Spray is a household insecticide designed to eliminate fleas and their life stages from the home environment. It is suitable for use on carpets, rugs, soft furnishings, pet bedding, and other areas where fleas may live. While topical flea treatments for pets control infestations on the animal, fleas can survive and reproduce in the environment for several months. RIP Fleas Spray breaks the flea life cycle and prevents reinfestation in the home.
RIP Fleas Spray contains a combination of active ingredients that target both adult fleas and the developing stages, including eggs and larvae. By treating the home with RIP Fleas Spray, pet owners can significantly reduce the risk of fleas recurring after treating their animals. It is especially useful during warmer months when flea activity tends to increase, or in households with multiple pets.

How RIP Fleas Spray Works
RIP Fleas Spray works using a dual-action formula. It contains an adulticide to kill existing adult fleas on contact, and an insect growth regulator (IGR) to prevent the development of eggs and larvae into adult fleas. This dual action is essential because fleas can lay hundreds of eggs in the environment, which can hatch days or even weeks after the initial infestation appears to be under control.
The adulticide used in RIP Fleas Spray acts quickly to kill adult fleas hiding in carpets, upholstery, and cracks in flooring. These areas are common hiding places that are not always reached through vacuuming alone. The insect growth regulator remains active for up to 12 months, disrupting the flea life cycle by preventing eggs and larvae from maturing. This long-lasting effect helps ensure that even fleas yet to emerge are neutralised before becoming a new generation of adults.
Application and Use
RIP Fleas Spray is supplied in a pressurised aerosol can for easy application. Before using the spray, it is important to vacuum all carpets, rugs, and soft furnishings thoroughly. Vacuuming helps remove adult fleas and stimulates any remaining eggs and larvae, making them more susceptible to the treatment. The vacuum bag or contents should be disposed of immediately after use.
To apply the spray, shake the can well and spray evenly across all floor-level surfaces where pets frequently rest or sleep. Focus on carpets, pet bedding, underneath furniture, and skirting boards. It is not necessary to soak the surfaces. A light, even coating is sufficient. Once applied, leave the area and allow it to dry completely before re-entering or allowing pets back into the room. This usually takes a few hours depending on ventilation and room size.
RIP Fleas Spray should not be sprayed directly onto animals. It is intended for use only in the home environment. After application, it is advised not to vacuum the treated areas for at least two weeks to allow the residual insecticide and growth regulator to remain effective.
Getting Rid of Fleas from the Home
Eliminating fleas from the home requires a methodical approach, especially if the infestation has become well established. Fleas reproduce quickly, and their eggs can be laid in any area where pets spend time. These eggs fall off the pet into the environment, where they hatch into larvae and eventually develop into new adult fleas.
To manage this problem effectively, both the pet and the environment must be treated. A suitable flea treatment for the animal, such as a spot-on product or oral tablet, should be used in conjunction with RIP Fleas Spray for the home. Treating only the pet is not enough, as up to 95% of a flea infestation exists in the environment rather than on the animal.
All soft furnishings, including curtains, cushions, pet bedding, and carpets, should be cleaned regularly. Pet bedding should be washed at a high temperature to kill any eggs or larvae. Floors should be vacuumed daily for at least a week following treatment, especially in areas where pets rest or sleep.
For homes with multiple rooms or multiple pets, it may be necessary to apply RIP Fleas Spray in every room where animals have access. Reinfestation can occur if untreated areas remain, as fleas and their eggs can be easily transferred between rooms by pets or people.
In cases of heavy infestation, repeat treatment may be required. However, because RIP Fleas Spray contains a long-lasting growth regulator, a single thorough application often provides sufficient protection for up to 12 months. It is advisable to monitor for signs of fleas, such as pet scratching, flea dirt in bedding, or bites on humans. If fleas are seen after treatment, it may be due to newly hatched fleas emerging from pupae, which are resistant to insecticides. These will die shortly after contact with the residual insecticide.
For ongoing protection, regular pet treatments should be maintained throughout the year. Preventative use of RIP Fleas Spray every six to twelve months can help ensure the home remains free from fleas in the long term.
