Nutravet Nutraflora for Dogs & Cats

Nutraflora is a veterinary-strength probiotic supplement designed for both dogs and cats to support digestive health, immune function and recovery. The formula combines a specific strain of beneficial bacteria, prebiotics, natural antioxidants and Vitamin B12. It is intended for regular use during convalescence, after gastrointestinal upset, following antibiotic treatment, or whenever the gut flora may have been disturbed.

How Nutraflora Works

Nutraflora contains a strain of Enterococcus faecium (DSM 10663, NCIMB 10415) which is chosen for its ability to survive passage through stomach acidity and reach the lower gut, where it can colonise and reproduce. It helps to re-establish and maintain the natural balance of microbial flora in the intestines. The supplement includes prebiotics, such as fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), which act as food for beneficial bacteria like Enterococcus, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria. These grow more effectively when supported by prebiotics, helping the gut flora to restore its healthy composition.

Natural antioxidants (including carotenoids) are included to support the gut’s defence mechanisms and limit oxidative stress in intestinal tissues. Vitamin B12 is supplied in the formulation because during digestive disturbances or when intake is poor, levels may decline; B12 helps with normal energy-yielding metabolism, supports red blood cell formation, and can reduce signs of lethargy. The capsule form allows for either administration whole or sprinkled onto food, depending on what is more acceptable to the animal.

Description

Benefits for Dogs & Cats

  • Supports steady digestion: By increasing numbers of beneficial bacteria, the supplement helps maintain or restore regular gut motility and digestive enzyme activity.
  • Improves stool consistency: Nutraflora may firm loose stools or reduce diarrhoea, by suppressing harmful organisms and restoring balance in the gut flora.
  • Enhances immune response: Healthy gut flora contribute to what is known as gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), which plays a key role in the immune system.
  • Aids recovery: Useful in convalescence or post-treatment phases, especially when illness, surgery, antibiotics or other stressors may have disrupted the intestinal microbiome.
  • Boosts appetite & energy: The combined effects of restored microbial balance and Vitamin B12 supplementation may help animals feel more comfortable, reduce fatigue and encourage normal eating.
  • Helps with toxin binding: Some ingredients help bind toxins and reduce their impact, which may reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

Usage Guidance

Nutraflora is suitable for short-term or long-term use depending on the condition. The dosage is generally determined by the animal’s weight: small breeds or cats require fewer capsules per day; larger dogs may need more. Capsules can be given whole or opened and the contents mixed with food. If used after antibiotics or during recovery, administration may begin immediately and continue until signs of digestive health are restored. Regular monitoring by a veterinarian is advised for animals with severe or chronic gut issues.

Nutraflora uses a strain of bacteria that has been licensed for repopulating gut microflora in dogs and cats. It is manufactured in the UK under quality-controlled conditions. Keep storage conditions within recommended temperature limits, avoiding extremes of heat or cold. While generally safe, pets with severe immune compromise or certain medical conditions should use probiotics under veterinary supervision.
