Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats

£52.73 (tax incl.)

Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats makes long-lasting parasite protection easier, with one adjustable collar providing 7–8 months of flea control and tick protection from day two for up to eight months. Fleas can cause itching and allergic skin irritation, while ticks attach to the skin during outdoor activity.

The collar gradually releases imidacloprid and flumethrin across the skin and coat, providing continuous protection while worn. Suitable for cats from 10 weeks that need protection against both fleas and ticks, its soft, non-greasy design avoids monthly applications. A safety closure and adjustable fit help accommodate everyday wear.

Description

Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats provides long-lasting parasite protection in a single, adjustable collar, helping you maintain treatment without a monthly application. This medicated collar treats flea infestations and prevents flea re-infestation for 7–8 months, with protection against the specified tick species from two days after fitting until eight months. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats is intended for cats that have, or are at risk of, both flea and tick infestations. The collar is suitable from 10 weeks of age, provided there is no known allergy to its ingredients. Recording the fitting date and planned replacement date in your calendar makes it easier to keep track of protection over the coming months. Its continuous action can be useful for owners who prefer a wearable treatment, while regular checks of the collar and your cat remain an essential part of their care.

Each Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats contains 1.25g imidacloprid and 0.56g flumethrin in a 38cm collar. These two ectoparasiticides act against parasites living on the outside of the body. Imidacloprid interferes with nerve signalling in fleas, while flumethrin provides the collar's tick-killing activity. The ingredients are released gradually from the collar material and spread across the skin and coat, rather than protecting only the area around the neck. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats therefore works through a sustained supply of active ingredients while it is worn. This delivery system is different from giving an oral medicine, and its effectiveness does not depend on oral absorption. The soft, non-greasy design offers a convenient option for cats comfortable wearing a collar. However, convenience should always be considered alongside suitability, especially if your cat has previously reacted to a parasite product or struggles with collars. Discuss their current treatments and any relevant medical history before changing their parasite-control routine.

Fleas can cause persistent irritation even when you rarely see them in the coat. Cats may scratch, bite at their fur or groom excessively, and some develop scabs or patches of thinning hair. Flea allergy dermatitis, often shortened to FAD, is a hypersensitivity reaction to flea saliva that can cause marked discomfort after a bite. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats can be included in a treatment strategy for FAD when a vet has already diagnosed the condition. It tackles the flea problem but does not replace any separate treatment needed for inflamed or damaged skin. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats also inhibits flea-larval development in the cat's immediate surroundings for 10 weeks. An established infestation still needs attention throughout the home, because immature flea stages can remain in bedding, carpets and resting areas. Vacuum regularly, wash suitable bedding and ask about an appropriate household treatment when necessary. Other pets may also need suitable treatment to reduce continuing re-infestation.

Ticks are external parasites that attach to the skin, often after an animal passes through vegetation. Check your cat after outdoor activity, gently parting the fur so that attached ticks are easier to notice. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats kills Ixodes ricinus and Rhipicephalus turanicus ticks and provides a repellent, anti-feeding effect against Ixodes ricinus. Its activity covers larval, nymph and adult tick stages. Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats does not offer instant protection against new tick infestations: this begins within two days of application. Ticks already attached before fitting may remain visible and may not be killed within the first 48 hours, so they should be removed safely. Ask a vet or veterinary nurse to demonstrate correct tick removal if you are unsure. Individual ticks can still attach during treatment, and transmission of tick-borne infections cannot be completely ruled out. Continue checking your cat rather than assuming that wearing a collar removes the need to inspect their skin.

How long does Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats last?

The collar treats fleas and prevents flea re-infestation for 7–8 months. Protection against the specified tick species starts within two days and lasts up to eight months. It should be worn continuously during treatment. Prolonged, intense exposure to water or shampooing may reduce the duration of activity.

How does the Prevexto cat collar work?

The collar gradually releases imidacloprid and flumethrin, which spread across your cat's skin and coat. Imidacloprid kills fleas, while flumethrin provides tick-killing activity. This sustained release maintains parasite protection while the collar is worn, without requiring a fresh monthly application of the product.

Can kittens wear Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats?

Kittens can use the cat collar from 10 weeks of age, provided it is suitable for their parasite risks and they are not allergic to its ingredients. Never use it on younger kittens. Check the fit regularly as your kitten grows, keeping a two-finger gap beneath the collar.

How tightly should I fit a Prevexto cat collar?

You should be able to slide two fingers between the collar and your cat's neck. Pass the loose end through the loop and trim excess length beyond 2cm. Check the fit periodically, particularly in growing kittens, and follow the illustrated fitting instructions provided with the product.

Does Prevexto work immediately against ticks?

Protection against new tick infestations begins within two days of fitting. Ticks already present may remain attached and may not be killed within the first 48 hours. Remove existing ticks safely, asking a veterinary professional for help if needed, and continue checking your cat during treatment.

Is Prevexto Flea and Tick Collar for Cats waterproof?

It is water resistant and remains effective if your cat gets wet. However, shampooing or prolonged, intense water exposure can shorten the treatment duration. It should not be described as unaffected by bathing. Follow the leaflet and ask for advice if your cat needs regular shampoo treatments.
