Soloxine tablets are given once or twice daily to dogs with low levels of thyroid hormone (hypothyroidism).
For the long term treatment of thyroid insufficiency - hypothyroidism - in dogs. L-Thyroxine is a synthetic product chemically identical to the naturally occurring thyroid hormone `T4'. Its effect is slow in onset, but of long duration.
Some of the clinical signs of hypothyroidism in dogs include:
Skin and coat changes including hair loss and myxedema
Recurrent ear infections (otitis)
Heat seeking behaviour
'Tragic' facial expressions
Obesity
Lethargy
Anaemia
High cholesterol levels
Reproductive problems
