How Optimmune Works

Optimmune contains cyclosporine, an immunosuppressive agent. This action helps to stimulate tear production, alleviating the dryness and irritation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) and chronic conjunctivitis. The ointment is typically applied directly to the affected eye or eyes once or twice a day, as prescribed by your vet. Onsior 40mg for Dogs is a prescription-only non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs. It contains the active substance robenacoxib, which is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor. This medicine is commonly prescribed by vets to manage pain associated with osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal disorders in dogs.

Each tablet contains 40mg of robenacoxib and is designed for once-daily oral administration. Onsior tablets are flavoured to aid with administration and are scored to allow accurate dosing based on the dog’s weight. They are authorised for veterinary use in the UK and have been shown to be effective for the management of chronic and acute pain.

How 40mg Onsior Works

Onsior 40mg contains robenacoxib, a member of the coxib class of NSAIDs. It works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which plays a key role in producing prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. By blocking COX-2, robenacoxib reduces the production of these chemicals at the site of injury or inflammation.

Unlike traditional NSAIDs, Onsior has minimal effect on COX-1, the enzyme involved in maintaining normal functions of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and blood clotting. This selectivity helps reduce the risk of gastrointestinal and renal side effects often associated with NSAID use in dogs.

Onsior begins to act rapidly, with effects typically observed within one to two hours of administration. The drug accumulates preferentially at sites of inflammation, allowing for targeted relief of pain while limiting exposure to unaffected tissues.
