Each pack contains 30 individual 5.3g sachets, with SAMe, silybin from milk thistle and antioxidant vitamins E and C. The liver processes nutrients and carries out many essential metabolic tasks, making healthy liver-cell function important to a dog’s overall wellbeing.

Samylin coated granules can be mixed into food, offering a useful alternative for dogs that are difficult to tablet. Samylin Large Breed is suitable for short-term or ongoing feeding, with the sachet format keeping each serving separate until it is needed at mealtimes.

Description

Samylin Large Breed is a nutritional supplement developed for the liver health of larger dogs. This pack contains 30 poultry-flavoured sachets of granules that can be mixed into food. The formulation combines S-adenosyl-L-methionine, usually called SAMe, with silybin from milk thistle and vitamins E and C. These ingredients contribute to antioxidant protection and normal liver-cell function. Samylin Large Breed offers an alternative to tablets without changing the purpose of the range: providing specific nutrients for an organ with a demanding role in everyday metabolism. The sachets are individually sealed, which makes the powder convenient to keep at home and take away, and avoids the need to measure loose powder from a larger tub with a scoop.

The liver processes nutrients absorbed from the digestive tract, stores energy, makes important proteins and produces bile involved in fat digestion. It also modifies many substances so they can be used or removed by the body. Its working cells, called hepatocytes, are therefore exposed to a wide range of metabolic demands. Samylin Large Breed supplies nutrients relevant to the health of these cells. When the liver is under strain, appetite, energy levels and body condition can change, although signs vary considerably between dogs and between different liver disorders. Some changes are first identified through blood testing rather than through obvious illness at home. Among the proteins made by the liver are albumin, which helps maintain fluid balance within the circulation, and proteins involved in blood clotting. Samylin Large Breed can be used for nutritional care over either a shorter period or as part of longer-term management, depending on the individual dog’s needs.

SAMe is a naturally occurring compound involved in several biochemical pathways, including those used to produce glutathione. Glutathione is one of the body’s important antioxidant defences, helping cells control reactive molecules produced during normal metabolism. Samylin Large Breed provides SAMe in a formulation designed for oral feeding. The protective coating on the granules is significant because key ingredients can be vulnerable to stomach acid before reaching the intestine. An enteric coating is designed to protect them during that earlier stage of digestion. Samylin Large Breed can therefore be given with or without food, and the granules are suitable for mixing into a meal.

Silybin, another ingredient in Samylin Large Breed, is a component of milk thistle selected for its antioxidant properties. Vitamins E and C contribute complementary antioxidant activity: vitamin E is associated with the fatty parts of cell membranes, while vitamin C acts in water-based environments. Oxidative stress describes an imbalance between the production of reactive molecules and the body’s ability to manage them. Samylin Large Breed combines these ingredients within one product rather than providing milk thistle alone. The aim is to help maintain the liver’s normal protective processes, with each component contributing a different aspect of nutritional care for liver cells.

The manufacturer’s feeding table recommends two Samylin Large Breed sachets daily for dogs weighing 31–40kg. At that amount, a pack of 30 lasts 15 days. For dogs weighing 41–50kg, the table gives three large-breed sachets daily, so the same pack lasts ten days. These amounts are particularly useful when planning a purchase, because a 30-sachet carton is not automatically a month’s supply. Samylin Large Breed has a poultry flavour, and mixing the granules into a small portion of the dog’s usual food can make it easier to ensure that the whole serving is eaten. The remaining meal can then be offered as normal.

Dogs needing liver-related nutritional care can have very different appetites and preferences. Samylin Large Breed may appeal where swallowing a tablet is difficult or where powder is easier to include in an established meal. The granules provide specific nutritional ingredients rather than a substantial source of calories, so maintaining an appropriate complete diet remains a separate part of feeding. Changes in appetite, vomiting, weight loss or unusual tiredness can accompany many conditions; yellowing of the eyes or gums needs prompt veterinary attention. Samylin Large Breed is a complementary feed, and its nutritional role is distinct from medicines used for a particular liver diagnosis. Store the sachets in their original packaging, protected from damp, and open each one when it is ready to be used so the remaining supply stays dry and intact.

What is Samylin Large Breed used for?

Samylin Large Breed provides nutritional ingredients for liver-cell health and normal liver function in larger dogs. It combines SAMe, silybin and antioxidant vitamins E and C. The poultry-flavoured granules are supplied in individual sachets and can be used for short-term or ongoing feeding.

What ingredients are in Samylin liver sachets?

The highlighted ingredients are S-adenosyl-L-methionine, known as SAMe, silybin from milk thistle, vitamin E and vitamin C. They contribute to antioxidant and nutritional care for liver cells. The granules have a protective coating designed to help important ingredients reach the intestine for absorption.

Can Samylin sachets be mixed with food?

Yes. The poultry-flavoured granules can be mixed into food, and Samylin can be given with or without a meal. Mixing the serving into a small portion first can help ensure it is eaten before the rest of the dog’s usual food is offered.

Why are Samylin granules coated?

The enteric coating helps protect sensitive ingredients during their passage through the acidic stomach environment. This is intended to improve their availability for absorption further along the digestive tract. Keep the granules intact rather than crushing or grinding them into a finer powder.

Is Samylin the same as a milk thistle supplement?

Samylin includes silybin from milk thistle, but its formulation also contains SAMe and vitamins E and C. It therefore combines several ingredients rather than supplying milk thistle alone. The protected granule format is another important part of how this particular product is designed.

What does SAMe do for a dog’s liver?

SAMe participates in normal metabolic pathways, including those involved in producing glutathione. Glutathione is an important antioxidant used by cells to manage reactive molecules. Providing SAMe forms part of Samylin’s nutritional approach to maintaining liver-cell health and the body’s normal protective processes.
