Description
How Animalintex Works
Animalintex is a medicated dressing that helps manage inflammation, infection, and trauma by drawing out discharge, promoting healing, and creating a clean, moist environment. It works through a combination of its ingredients and its physical structure.
The boric acid has mild antiseptic and antibacterial properties. When the dressing is activated with warm water, the boric acid helps cleanse the affected area and reduce the risk of infection. This is particularly beneficial when treating wounds, abscesses, or open sores.
Tragacanth is a natural gum derived from plant sources that acts as a gentle drawing agent. It helps to draw out pus, exudate, or debris from a wound or abscess, which aids in reducing inflammation and speeding up the healing process. It also helps to soften the dressing when hydrated, making it comfortable to apply directly to the skin.
The cotton wool core provides cushioning and absorbency. This helps to manage exudate by absorbing moisture away from the wound while maintaining a moist wound environment, which is known to be beneficial for healing. The non-woven cover prevents fibres from adhering to the wound, reducing trauma during dressing changes.
The plastic backing on one side ensures directional action—fluid is drawn into the dressing and not allowed to pass back through. This ensures that moisture, heat, or cold is retained within the dressing to support the desired therapeutic effect.
Hot Poultice Use
When used as a hot poultice, Animalintex helps increase blood flow to the area, relax tissues, and draw out infection. This method is often chosen for hoof abscesses, swollen joints, or deep-seated infections.
To apply as a hot poultice, the dressing should be soaked in warm boiled water (not boiling), gently wrung out until damp, and applied with the plastic backing facing outward. The treated area should then be covered with a suitable bandage to secure it in place.
Cold Poultice Use
Animalintex can also be used as a cold poultice, typically for acute injuries such as sprains, strains, or bruising. Cold application helps to reduce swelling and limit inflammation in the early stages of an injury.
To apply as a cold poultice, soak the dressing in cold, boiled water, and refrigerate briefly if required. Once applied to the affected area, it should be bandaged as with a hot poultice.
Dry Dressing Use
Animalintex may also be used dry as a protective dressing for clean wounds or as a dry absorbent layer over an exuding wound. In these cases, the dressing should be applied directly to the site with the plastic backing facing outwards, and held in place with a suitable bandage.
This method can be useful for post-operative care or when wounds are no longer infected but still require dressing to support continued healing.
Common Uses for Animalintex
Animalintex is widely used in equine and veterinary care for the following conditions:
-
Hoof abscesses and puncture wounds
-
Infected or discharging wounds
-
Bruising, sprains, and muscle strains
-
Inflammation of joints or tendons
-
Mud fever and skin irritations
-
Post-surgical sites where moisture management is needed
-
Thrush in horses’ hooves
It is particularly effective when used on equine lower limbs and hooves, due to its ability to conform to shape and maintain therapeutic temperature or moisture.
Instructions and Precautions
Each Animalintex sheet should be used on one animal only and disposed of after a single use. It is important not to reuse the dressing, as this can lead to contamination and reduce effectiveness.
Boiled water should always be used to ensure sterility, and the dressing should be applied as soon as it is prepared to maintain its temperature and integrity. It should never be microwaved or applied excessively hot, as this can cause tissue damage.
Veterinary advice should be sought for persistent wounds, severe infections, or if symptoms do not improve after a few days of use. Animalintex is not a substitute for appropriate veterinary diagnosis or antibiotic therapy where required.
This product should be stored in a clean, dry place and protected from moisture until ready for use. Always check the expiry date on the packaging and follow the instructions included for best results.

Zylkene Equine - Zylkene for Horses - 20 x 4g Sachets
Zylkene Equine is a scientifically formulated calming supplement specifically designed to help manage stress and anxiety in horses. Utilising a natural milk-derived protein, Zylkene supports relaxation in horses facing challenging or stressful situations. Common scenarios include transportation, vet visits, competitions, training sessions, and changes in their environment. The supplement's gentle action promotes a calming effect without causing sedation or affecting performance negatively.
Horses, despite their size and strength, are sensitive animals prone to stress and anxiety when experiencing unfamiliar environments or circumstances. Signs of stress in horses may include pacing, pawing, sweating, behavioural changes, agitation, refusal to eat, or diminished performance. Prolonged stress or anxiety can also lead to further health complications, highlighting the importance of effective stress management strategies.
Zylkene Equine is developed from a unique ingredient known as alpha-casozepine. Alpha-casozepine is a naturally occurring peptide extracted from bovine milk that has demonstrated calming properties. Its effectiveness is backed by extensive scientific research, which shows that this peptide works by mimicking the action of calming substances naturally produced in the horse's body. Alpha-casozepine interacts positively with receptors in the brain associated with stress and anxiety responses, thus helping the horse to feel calmer and more at ease.
Unlike many traditional calming supplements or sedatives, Zylkene does not cause drowsiness or impair a horse's ability to perform normal activities. Horses receiving Zylkene remain alert, responsive, and fully capable of participating in training, competitions, or routine activities. Instead, the supplement facilitates a balanced and relaxed mental state, enabling the horse to better cope with stressful situations. By using Zylkene, horse owners and trainers can manage behavioural issues arising from stress without compromising the horse’s natural abilities or safety.

Ekyflogyl Gel for Horses - 125ml
Ekyflogyl Gel for Horses is a unique, topical corticosteroid gel designed specifically for horses suffering from localised musculoskeletal disorders. 125ml Ekyflogyl Gel is the only topical corticosteroid gel for horses licensed in the UK.
Musculoskeletal disorders are a common ailment in horses, with a significant percentage of horses developing at least one kind of musculoskeletal disorder during their lifetime. These disorders can cause inflammation and pain, affecting the horse's mobility and quality of life. Ekyflogyl for Horses offers a targeted solution to these issues, providing relief from pain and inflammation associated with conditions such as tendinitis, splints, arthritis, desmitis, muscle strain, and haematoma.
Ekyflogyl Gel for Horses has a unique composition of three key ingredients: prednisolone, lidocaine, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Prednisolone is a deep-acting corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, providing relief from pain and reducing inflammation. Lidocaine is a fast-acting local anaesthetic, offering immediate relief by directly acting on pain transmission. DMSO promotes the penetration of these active substances through the skin, ensuring the effective delivery of the treatment to the affected area.
