20mg Benazecare for Dogs

Benazecare are pale yellow film-coated divisible oval tablets. Each Benazecare tablet contains 20mg benazepril hydrochloride.
Benazecare is indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs and the treatment of chronic renal insufficiency in cats.
After oral administration Benazecare is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and hydrolysed into benazeprilat a highly specific and potent inhibitor of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). Benazeprilat produces significant inhibition of plasma ACE activity for more than 24 hours after a single dose in both dogs and cats. Inhibition of ACE leads to a reduced conversion of inactive angiotensin I into angiotensin II and therefore reduction in the effects mediated by angiotensin II including vasoconstriction of both arteries and veins retention of sodium and water by the kidney and remodelling effects (including pathological cardiac hypertrophy and degenerative renal changes).
In dogs with heart failure benazeprilat lowers the blood pressure and volume loading effect on the heart.
In cats with renal insufficiency Benazecare reduces the protein loss in urine and normalises the elevated glomerular capillary pressure and reduces systemic blood pressure. Reduction in glomerular hypertension retards the progression of kidney disease by inhibition of further damage to the kidneys. Benazecare has been shown to increase the appetite quality of life and the survival time of cats particularly in advanced disease.
Benazecare is excreted equally by both biliary and urinary routes in dogs and primarily via the biliary route in cats and therefore no adjustment of the dose of Benazecare is necessary in the treatment of cases with renal insufficiency. Onset of clinical efficacy can be expected approximately 1 week after initiation of treatment with Benazecare.
Dosage and administration
In both dogs and cats Benazecare should be given orally once daily with or without food. The duration of treatment is unlimited. Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs The recommended dose is 0.25 mg benazepril hydrochloride/kg body weight to be given orally once daily. The dose may be doubled still administered once daily if judged clinically necessary and advised by the veterinary surgeon. The dosing regime is as follows: BENAZECARE 5 Weight of dog (kg) Standard dose Double dose 5-10 0.5 tablet/day 1 tablet/day 11-20 1 tablet/day 2 tablets/day Benazepril may be given with digoxin diuretics and anti-arrhythmic drugs as necessary. Symptoms can vary depending on the underlying heart problem and on where fluid builds up. CHF is a condition that requires ongoing veterinary care, and treatment is usually long term.
How Cardalis works
Cardalis combines an ACE inhibitor (benazepril) with an aldosterone antagonist (spironolactone). Together, they target two key pathways that are often overactive in CHF.
Benazepril works by reducing the production of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and encourages salt and water retention. By reducing angiotensin II, blood vessels can relax and blood pressure can reduce. This can lower the resistance the heart has to pump against, which may improve forward blood flow and reduce congestion. Benazepril can also help limit signals that contribute to fluid retention.
Spironolactone works by blocking the effects of aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone that tells the body to hold on to sodium and water. In CHF, aldosterone can remain high and can continue to drive fluid retention. By antagonising aldosterone, spironolactone helps reduce sodium and water retention while conserving potassium. Aldosterone can also influence longer-term changes in the heart and blood vessels, so controlling its effects can be valuable alongside other heart medicines.

How Semintra works
Telmisartan acts on a hormone pathway called the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS). The RAAS influences blood pressure and blood flow through the kidneys. In CKD, this system can contribute to increased pressure within the kidney’s microscopic filters (the glomeruli). Higher pressure can push more protein through the filter and into the urine.
Telmisartan blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. By blocking this pathway, Semintra can help reduce pressure in the glomeruli and lower the amount of protein that passes into the urine. The aim is to reduce ongoing strain on the kidneys. Semintra does not cure CKD, but it can support kidney care where proteinuria is present.
